Flies

Cluster flies, house flies, and fruit flies pressuring homes across Sanpete and Juab Counties.

How to Identify Flies

“Flies” covers three different problems in Central Utah. Cluster flies are slightly larger than house flies with overlapping wings at rest, and gather by the hundreds on sun-warmed exterior walls each fall looking for a way inside to overwinter. House flies are gray with four dark stripes on the thorax and are drawn to garbage, pet waste, and livestock areas. Fruit flies are tiny and tan, and tend to appear seemingly overnight around drains, recycling, and ripening produce.

Signs You May Have a Problem

  • Flies clustering on sun-warmed exterior walls, eaves, or attic vents each fall
  • Flies appearing indoors on warm winter or early-spring days with no clear entry point
  • Small flies hovering around drains, trash cans, or ripening produce indoors

Why It Matters

Cluster flies overwinter by the hundreds in wall voids and attics and reappear indoors on warm days through winter — a genuine nuisance more than a health risk. House and fruit flies, on the other hand, move between contaminated surfaces like garbage and drains and food prep areas, which makes them a real sanitation concern in kitchens. Magnafly Baiting Stations placed around the exterior intercept all three before they reach the house.
